Prayer is a form of religious practice that seeks to activate a volitional connection to God, or any deity, through deliberate practice. Prayer may be either individual or communal and take place in public or in private. It may involve the use of words or song. When language is used, prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, formal creedal statement, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person. There are different forms of prayer such as petitionary prayer, prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, and worship/praise. Prayer may be directed towards a deity, spirit, deceased person, or lofty idea, for the purpose of worshiping, requesting guidance, requesting assistance, confessing sins or to express one's thoughts and emotions. Thus, people pray for many reasons such as personal benefit or for the sake of others. Most major religions involve prayer in one way or another. Some ritualize the act of prayer, requiring a strict sequence of actions or placing a restriction on who is permitted to pray, while others teach that prayer may be practiced spontaneously by anyone at any time. Scientific studies regarding the use of prayer have mostly concentrated on its effect on the healing of sick or injured people. The efficacy of petition in prayer for physical healing to a deity has been evaluated in numerous studies, with contradictory results. There has been some criticism of the way the studies were conducted. From Wikipedia under the

I have to lead in prayer tomorrow and there is a section under the planning sheet for the prayer that says prayer of praise/thanksgiving/petit ion/reparation. Also, I began with a moment of silence and I am wondering what I should do for a closing? Please help! I have no idea what I'm doing. Asked by Maxie - Wed Sep 9 21:36:25 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. There is a simply Catholic formula to remember for prayer: 1) Name God (the Father) 2) Thank Him for what He's done. 3) Ask Him for something you hope He will do. 4) Through Christ's name. Amen. Here's an example of a prayer before a meal using this formula: Heavenly Father (name God) you fed your people in the desert (something God did) We pray that this meal strengthens us physically. mentally, and spiritually, so we may better serve you and do your work. (what you hope God will do) We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen. (Ask through Christ's name. Amen). I hope this helps Answered by B.P. - Wed Sep 9 21:48:47 2009 How have you experienced the power of prayer in your life? Q. In an increasingly stress-ridden world with growing religiosity, more and more people are turning to prayer. Often when you are grateful or helpless you turn to prayer. How have you experienced the power of prayer? Asked by unknown - Fri Dec 25 21:49:08 2009 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. Oh wow I don't even know where to begin regarding how many times I've experienced the power of prayer in my life. By praying to Jehovah God, I am able to endure the daily trials I have to face no matter what they are or how serious they are due to his Holy spirit. I'm also able to do many things that I could never do on my own such as talk to a random stranger about the Bible and God's Kingdom knowing that they will probably act ruthlessly. I am also able to look past the current state of the world and not be depressed by it knowing a better future is to come, all thanks to endurance by means of prayer and bible study. =) Answered by Jacob - Fri Dec 25 21:58:38 2009 What is the prayer of salvation?
